Students’ Voices

Over the years, I have a humongous collection of cards, letters, feedback and nominations for awards from my students. Few were displayed while others carelessly slipped between the pages of teaching guides or tugged away in some corners on my work-station. Ironically, it was only after I left school, these letters became so precious. Here is the collection of my students’ voices.

Teacher Janice is my teacher and also MY MOTHER! She is always kind and patient. Sometimes when the class is very naughty / noisy. She is quite strict. I am sad that she is moving to a tuition center instead of teaching from home because I can’t spend much time with her. When we work hard, she will always give us a treat. I am proud to have a mother who is an expert in Math (but also very stressful since her eyes are on me ALL THE TIME! Luckily, I have got 100% for all my tests this year!)

(Loh Yih Hang, Primary 2 – Ai Tong 2009)

Teacher Janice is a ind and patient teacher. Her lessons are fun and interesting. When my school teacher puts a star at the questions (difficult questions), I can solve it easily because it is like a ‘normal’ question in Teacher Janice’s tuition class. My Math has improved from 98% to 100%. I am sad to leave the class but happy to have met such a good teacher.

(Teo Yue Qi, Primary 2 – Ai Tong 2009)

Teacher Janice teaches us how to draw models and she always help us when we have difficulties doing our work. She always make the lessons interesting and fun. Teacher Janice let me have extra lessons if I need extra help. She always puts a star beside my work when I show improvement to encourage me.

(Dylan, Primary 2 – Ai Tong 2009)

Teacher Janice is a very kind teacher who teaches us interesting things. She also encourage us. She is patient with us and she cook delicious lunches. She is the best teacher I ever had.

Teacher Janice is a kind and patient teacher. She gives us breaks when we are tired. Sometimes, she treats us ice-cream when we do well. Last time, I do not know fractions and how to draw models. With Teacher Janice’s help, I had become an expert in Maths. She is the best teacher in my life.

Mrs loh!! I really really misses YOU! In my new school, lessons are boring and this makes me think of your fabulous strategies. I miss the lessons, scolding, strategies, last but not least … the fun I had with you and in 4G 2008! You are the best!

(Lee Yih Chee, Primary 5 – St Nicholas, 2009)

Mrs Loh has her own innovative teaching methods for example, ‘Read one sentence, Draw one model’, ‘100%=100 units” and “Same as – Equal to = Lock’. She is also very strict and does not allow nonsense in class. Last year, when I was in Primary 4, I scored 78 ad 88 for my Math. This year, after attending Mrs Loh’s tuition, my Math improved and I scored 91 for both exams. She made Math easier and it is also fun learning Math from her.
(Teo Jun Wei, Primary 5 – Ai Tong School, 2009)

Mrs Loh is a teacher who makes learning very fun. She makes problem sums easier to understand and I begin to like Math since she started teaching me. She is also very patient with weaker students. She gives them additional lessons. When we do well for exams, she would give us a treat. After attending her tuition, my Math grades improved from B (71 marks) to A (82 marks). I am happy with this improvement and I would certainly continue to come for her lessons.
(Bianca Woon, Primary 5 – Ai Tong School, 2009)

Mrs Loh is a very good teacher. She has helped me improve my Math tremendously as the methods that she use to explain problems sums make it easier for me to understand. During lesson, there is ‘no-nonsense ’ but she gives us a break and will provide us with snacks. When we are stress, she will crack jokes to make us laugh before getting back to business. Her lessons are definitely great.
(Justin, Primary 5 – Ai Tong School, 2009)

Mrs Loh is someone who knows the Math syllabus at her finger tips! She teaches us using methods that she has created herself. These methods make understanding problem sums a breeze. We have fun in class and she provides us with food during breaks. But when it comes to learning, she is strict and does not tolerate nonsense. My math has certainly improved – from 75% to 91%.
(Say Cheong, Primary 5  – Ai Tong School,  2009)

Mrs Loh has been more of a great friend than a teacher as she is understanding and always encourages me not to give up. She provides a nice environment for learning (like playing accelerated learning music during lessons) which she says will help us concentrate better. Her lessons are fun but she don’t accept any nonsense. She provides us with step-by-step solutions for difficult questions. My Math grades have improved tremendously ever since I attended her tuition classes. I improved from 65% to 82%. Her lessons are beneficial – No doubt!

My teacher tells us stories, jokes with us and teaches us funny ways. Most of the time, we do work and discuss questions that my class does not know. I would say she is a caring, loving and kind teacher and I like her very much. (Ian Lau, 2008)

Mrs Loh is an innovative teacher which strive to do the best that she can be. She inspired me in Math by teaching me alot of useful things like dogbone (rounding off), rokak (mixed numbers). She put in alot of faith in me and made me a better person. I really think she made me a better person. (Karen Lee, 2008)

Mrs Loh is very innovative. She uses the blog to teach us and I like her ideas. We learn many things that are not in the textbook that will help us in our studies. She always points out our mistakes so that we will not make the same mistakes again. She also teaches us creative and funny ways of remembering our work that I find it very useful. (Reiko Tan, 2008)

Mrs Loh cares about her pupils work. Example : She takes her own spare time to prepare useful notes for us before the examination. (Shandy Lim, 2008)

In Math you taught me how to draw models. I like Math now because it is easier by drawing models. When you come to teach me and the class at first, I thought you will be fierce but I found out that you can’t tell how a person is like just by looking at a person. In Fact, I think you are the best teacher in the world! In English, what I like about English is that you give me good remarks for my composition. In Science, I like it when you give us notes. It is easier for me to revise when having notes. (Chloe Yan, 2007)

I like the models Mrs Loh had taught us for Math. It was a big help during exam. One question I don’t know so I use models and draw then I know how to do that question. (Nelyn Ang, 2007)

Mrs Loh used the PC to draw models for us, so that we won’t make mistakes on the Math paper. She also explain everything. I love these parts of Math most and I learnt alot! (Kuan Hur, 2007)

This is my favourite teacher. She is Mrs Loh. She had a bad habit, it is she always shout at me, and she won’t tell me her home number.  I like the model and giving us FREEDOM. I like the ‘blue clues’ that she teach us. I like the notes she prepare for us. She is the best teacher I ever had! (Guan Hao 2007)

She is kind but strict. She teaches us properly and gives us break if we are tired. She especially like girls. She won’t be angry if we don’t understand, but teach us slowly again. She is a great teacher. She is a smart and pretty teacher. She praises the students who is good and scolds the students who is talkative. She also sometimes shares her stories and tries to do fun things together. My result will improve – I know it – because she taught us good strategies which I won’t forget.  I will never have another great smashing pretty patient and cool teacher again. … Since Mrs Loh taught us, my classmates are eager to learn. That’s why I like Mrs loh so much. But, when she scold, she always say “Call parents” this then “Call parents’ that! (Ashley 2007)

I like Mrs Loh. I like model drawings. I have learnt how (to draw) models with Mrs Loh. She teaches us good models. I am happy to have a teacher like her. I like English the most! I learnt that English is so fun! Like for something ….. “S” keeps singular company … This is a crazy way of remembering things from Mrs Loh. (Faith Tan, 2007)

I like my teacher because she likes to tell us stories about her childhood. Even though she has been with us for a month or so, she taught us useful strategies to use in our exams. I like models that I have learnt in Math. She is the best teacher I have ever met! (Teri Chong, 2007)

Mrs Loh is very innovative. She taught us how to draw models and teach us easier way to change improper fractions to a mixed number. She taught us many things like Fish bone and M&Ms. As for English, she taught us to highlight the good words in the comprehesnion. She also told to write short and sweet.
